Rogue One cinematography

in science fiction

It doesn’t matter to me if the rest of Rogue One is awful, not when this is how Gareth Edwards’s presents the Star Wars universe. See, I’m a written science fiction fan. While I don’t keep count of what books I’ve read, I put the count somewhere in the mid hundreds. Some novels I’ve read are high-handed explorations of concepts, with only a thin veneer of characters smeared over the top to soften the message. Compared to this, screened science fiction jars with its ludicrous interpersonal drama and dayglo visuals.

I can’t complain about the drama drama or the visuals-they are part and parcel of the medium-but sometimes I want television science fiction without the television science fiction.

Here’s a glimpse of Star Wars without all the jacked-up colours. It looks incredible. I want more.
